Crosby Hop Farm

Woodburn, Oregon

Our work with Crosby Hop Farm includes educational, promotional, entertainment, and general hop beauty shots.

Crosby Hop Farm loves working alongside brewers to make award winning beers. Following the Great American Beer Festival wins from Sunriver Brewing Company, Crosby reached out to us to profile the brewery. We talked with them about how quality ingredients can help make quality beers (they do) and how their relationship with Crosby started and continues on to this day.

This video showcases winning partnerships throughout the craft beer industry.

We've done some work with Bastion Brewing Company in the past - photography for their website, a profile on our old blog, and shared many beers together. When they approached us to work with their maltster and hop grower to create a crazy video of them flying down to pick up their hops, we had to agree.

This project was funded by Hopstories, Crosby Hop Farm, Skagit Valley Malting, and Bastion Brewing Company. It is one of the craziest ways to get fresh hops.

On April 11, 2017 at U Street Music Hall in Washington, D.C., Crosby Hop Farm and Deschutes Brewery hosted Craft Beer Conference attendees for a night of soul music and comedy, featuring craft beer icons answering unexpected questions. NYC-comedian Jim Tews interviewed industry luminaries for "Between Two Hops," a fun take on Zach Galifinakis' "Between Two Ferns."

The Sensory Panel was developed to work in tandem with our on-site lab as hops arrive for quality assurance. Our trained panelists use hop aroma standards to create descriptive aroma profile narratives and spider graphs for each of our hop lots, which help our clients make educated decisions through the most trusted perception: the human senses.

Harvest is a special time of year for many reasons. When harvest begins, it means that fresh hop beers brewed with Crosby-grown hops will soon be available. A few local breweries brewing with our fresh hops in 2016 include Fort George Brewery, BridgePort Brewing Co., Hopworks Urban Brewery and Baerlic Brewing.

Crosby Hop Farm regional account manager, Beau Evers highlights five varieties from the broad hop portfolio of more than 75 varieties we offer - Sterling, Crystal, Amarillo® (VGXP01), Comet and Idaho 7. He notes the characteristics brewers can expect from each of these in-demand hop varieties.

Crosby Hop Farm produces unique, craft-inspired Crosby® Type 90 pellets that offer exceptional utilization and dry hopping capabilities. We carefully process our softer style hop pellets under low temperature conditions, further preserving the robust flavor and aroma compounds sometimes lost during conventional pellet processing.

In 2016, Crosby Hop Farm became a Certified B Corporation®. B Corps are certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, improving the quality of life in our communities through business. B Corp certification is essentially to sustainable business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.

Crosby Hop Farm is a leading hop grower, merchant, and processor. We have been growing hops for more than 100 years in the Willamette Valley. As a Salmon-Safe certified grower and Certified B Corp™ supplier, our commitment to our customers and stakeholders is unwavering - rooted in our core values of quality, innovation, sustainability, and community.

Crosby Hop Farm can store approximately 1.5 million pounds of finished hop products in its cold storage facility. The proper temperature and storage of hops is critical. The facility is set to 26 degrees, the ideal temperature to preserve the brewing value of hops.
To capture a complete picture of the quality of the hops, Crosby Hop Farm established an on-site lab in 2014, which is critical to our commitment to quality assurance. The lab is managed by Staci Wallace, Quality Assurance & Sustainability Manager.
