Fred Eckhardt is an American Beer writer who was one of the first to write about brewing beer from grain instead of extract. Every year around his birthday, Hair of the Dog Brewing Company in Portland, OR throws him a birthday party to celebrate. Rare beers are put on tap from brewers around the country who have been inspired by Fred, delicious food is rolled out, and friends old and new wish Fred a happy birthday. It truly is the best little beer festival in the Northwest.
